Mitchell Robinson Says His Brother Was Hit by a Car on Day He Was to Be Introduced by Celtics

Boston Celtics center Mitchell Robinson explained why he missed Tuesday's introductory press conference with his new team.

Mitchell said in a Snapchat video that his younger brother was hit by a car early on Tuesday morning, but he should be released from the hospital soon:

After helping to lead the New York Knicks to the 2026 NBA championship, Robinson joined the longtime rival Celtics in free agency on a three-year deal.

The Celtics were set to introduce Robinson on Tuesday along with fellow offseason acquisitions Mike Conley Jr. and Paul George. Despite his absence, team president Brad Stevens told reporters during the press conference that Robinson has already been in Boston for the past few days working with the team.

Known for his defense and rebounding, Robinson will provide rim protection and depth behind Celtics starting center Neemias Queta, who is coming off a career year with averages of 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. Boston hasn't advanced past the second round of the playoffs since winning the 2024 NBA championship, but Stevens expressed confidence in this year's team.

"I really like this group," Stevens said . "I think this group is going to be good."

For now, Robinson will continue focusing on his family while his brother recovers. The Celtics will open the 2026-27 season on Oct. 20 against the Detroit Pistons.
