Kristaps Porzingis Out Indefinitely, Jimmy Butler Injury Update Announced by Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are already battling the injury bug before the 2026-27 season begins.

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. told reporters on Monday that veteran center Kristaps Porzingis is out indefinitely to start training camp due to a health issue. Dunleavy added , "I'm not marking him down as being out to start the season or anything like that. He's just not available this week."

Dunleavy also provided an update on star forward Jimmy Butler III's recovery from a torn ACL, saying that he and injured guard Moses Moody have progressed to "very light on-court activities."

The Warriors are set to open training camp in Hawai'i before playing their first preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers in Honolulu on Oct. 4. ESPN's Anthony Slater noted that Porzingis will not travel with the team, ruling him out for at least the first four practices and the preseason opener.

Golden State acquired Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks at last season's trade deadline, but he appeared in just 15 regular-season games with his new team due to his recurring health issue. The 31-year-old has missed a combined 90 games over the last two regular seasons. Despite his injury history, the Warriors re-signed him to a two-year, $40 million contract this summer.

Slater reported that there was "internal optimism about how Porzingis looked this summer," as he appeared to be cleared for training camp before Dunleavy was informed about his latest health issue.

"He's been participating in everything," Dunleavy said. "It just kind of popped up."

Dunleavy expressed confidence that this latest setback won't hurt Porzingis' chances of being ready for the upcoming campaign.

"We feel comfortable with everything [about Porzingis' status]," Dunleavy said. "Disappointed that he won't be out there [when training camp starts Tuesday], but it's early, so don't want to overreact to anything."
