Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra weighed in on veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson's slow start to the 2026-27 season.

"I'm confident that he'll get there," Spoelstra said Friday, per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald . "And even with the percentage that he's shooting, he still provides us that gravity."

Thompson is beginning his first season as a member of the Heat after joining Miami on a two-year, $11.5 million contract in free agency this summer.

The 36-year-old has already established himself as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, earning five All-Star nods and winning four championships during his time with the Golden State Warriors.

His 2,911 career triples rank No. 4 on the NBA's all-time leaderboard . He's remained efficient despite his high volume of perimeter shots, owning a 40.9 three-point percentage throughout his tenure in the association.

Thompson hasn't found much consistency with his jumper during his inaugural season with the Heat, though.

He's shooting just 31.7 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from behind the arc through his first five appearances of the year.

Thompson has also hit a mere 36.4 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes after connecting on 40.4 percent of his catch-and-shoot looks over the past two seasons combined.

His long-range struggles have hurt his overall impact, as his minus-25.6 net rating is the worst among all Heat players this year (via NBA.com ).

Thompson will attempt to get back on track as Miami faces the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET.
