Angel Reese took a dig at her former team, the Chicago Sky, after being named the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Angel Reese was named the Defensive Player of the Year right before the Atlanta Dream's Game 1 clash in the Semifinals of the WNBA Playoffs. The 24-year-old was handed her trophy and she immediately showed why she deserves it with a dominant display in their 92-82 win.

Reese may be flying with the Dream, but they are not the team which drafted her. Coming in as one of women's basketball's biggest prospects, Reese was drafted by the Chicago Sky with the seventh overall pick in 2024. As she won her first major individual award, she had some words for her former team.

Angel Reese says 'she didn't have the opportunity' to show who she was in the WNBA for the past two years

Despite being named an All-Star in her first two seasons, Reese's time with the Sky was marked with failure. She never made the playoffs with them, and her offensive game was a big target for ridicule within the WNBA world. There were also reports of problems behind the scenes.

For any who may still have been in doubt about how Reese feels regarding her former employers, her words after winning the DPOY are an excellent look into how she feels about them.

"I knew who I was going to be coming into the league. Obviously, I didn't have the opportunity to do that in the past two years," Reese said. "Being able to come here to Atlanta, I knew what I was expected (to do); I knew that I was gonna be put on a pedestal of being able to play with great players… Being able to be here in Atlanta, just really grateful to have sisters in the locker room that genuinely care about me."

The Sky finished this season with a poor 16-28 record once again, missing out on the postseason by a wide margin. Now, their former star is taking shots at them as she succeeds in her very first season with another team. It is a tough time to be a Chicago fan.
