French trans player Julie Tetart addressed WNBA chatter and Sophie Cunningham’s stance

Amid all the WNBA draft rumours, Julie Tetart has already addressed her chances of playing in America.

For anyone who still doesn't know, Julie Tetart is a 6-foot-3 French professional basketball player who identifies as a transgender woman. Before her transition, she spent nearly two decades playing in France's men's regional divisions.

After publicly coming out in 2021, she stepped away from the sport for about three years to undergo her gender transition and multiple surgeries before returning to the court in 2024 with Monaco.

Her dominant stat lines, averaging over 20 points and 20 rebounds per game, placed her directly at the center of the WNBA's ongoing eligibility debate.

However, while viral social media claims recently suggested she declared for the WNBA draft, no official paperwork or announcement exists, it remains pure internet speculation.

Julie Tetart throws doubt over WNBA opportunity

Despite the rumours coming recently of a potential entry into the WNBA draft, Julie Tetart has already spoken about her chances.

Speaking to OutKick over Instagram in direct messages at the start of August, Tetart shared how she would love to play in the WNBA. but she can't see herself in America given the strong policies.

She said: "If they contact me, I won't say no. But you have to be realistic: I'm old, and there are far better players than me!

"Obviously, it's a childhood dream just like for any female basketball player, but unfortunately, it's not possible. The league, yes. The country, no, haha."

Tetart was then asked about Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham's recent remarks , where she wants to "protect young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

She replied: "Aucun," which translated to English is, "None."

Even with Enes Kanter and Royce White's efforts, it's highly unlikely that the WNBA will allow biological men to play in the league anytime soon.
