Giannis Antetokounmpo received a warm welcome from the crowd at Kaseya Center as he made his Miami Heat debut on Wednesday night.

Fans chanted "MVP" at Antetokounmpo while he attempted free throws with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter of Miami's matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Heat acquired the two-time MVP as part of a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks on June 22.

Miami received Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from Milwaukee in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round draft picks, one pick swap and one second-round pick.

Antetokounmpo made a strong first impression on Wednesday, scoring 14 points and grabbing two rebounds during the first quarter. He also shot 5-of-6 from the field in the opening period.

The 31-year-old was pleased with Miami's progress in training camp heading into its season opener.

"I think our chemistry is where it should be," Antetokounmpo said Tuesday, per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald . "Our approach is incredible. I think we've worked extremely hard these 22 days that we've been in training camp. We've gotten together as a team. We've done a lot of activities off the court as a team. Not only do we spend time here, we spend time out of here.

"So I think our mindset is exactly where it should be. Obviously, we're going to get better. This is Game 1. In Game 40, we're going to be a better team as long as everybody is healthy and everybody is available. So we just got to keep on taking it one step at a time. But the first step, which was training camp, we attacked that step very, very well. I'm proud of myself. I'm proud of the team. Hopefully, we can go out there and show it."

While the Heat missed the playoffs with a record of 43-39 last season, expectations are high following the addition of Antetokounmpo.

He's coming off a stellar 13-year tenure with Milwaukee in which he amassed 10 All-Star nods, nine All-NBA selections, one Defensive Player of the Year award, one championship and a Finals MVP honor.

Antetokounmpo also left the Bucks as their all-time leading scorer .

As he begins the next chapter of his career, he's already receiving plenty of support from Heat fans.
