Nikola Jokic is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game. However, he once explained that's not how he wants his children to think of him.
Nikola Jokic has changed the game of basketball over the course of his career. The Denver Nuggets superstar has won three MVPs and a Finals MVP to go along with a championship, too.
Jokic's accomplishments on the court are almost too numerous to count. He is a triple-double machine despite being a big man, something that no one before him has managed at the highest level.
The Serbian has never been one to big himself up or act like he's doing something extraordinary. And despite all his achievements, Jokic would prefer for his own children to remember him differently.
Nikola Jokic would rather his children remembered him as a father than a basketball star
Jokic has two children with his wife, Natalija, a daughter born in 2021 and a son born in 2024. And the 31-year-old cares a lot more about life off the court than he does on it.
Speaking on a podcast in 2023, Jokic explained how he wanted to be remembered and what he values. That take recently resurfaced on social media.
"I really, when I finish my career, I really wish nobody knows me," Jokic said. "And I really wish my kid, or kids in the future, really remember me as a dad, not as a basketball player."
"That's going to be my goal in life… Just to live in the moment, be a normal person. Go drink with your buddy, go have lunch, go play with the kid, go drive horses and nobody's going to make a big deal of that."
The NBA superstar's words from back then provide a lot of insight into who he is as a person. Having said that, it's not going to stop Jokic from amassing many more accolades before his career ends.
