The Los Angeles Lakers improved their preseason record to 2-1 on Thursday night thanks to a 114-110 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Luka Dončić's 23 points led all players. Bronny James did a little bit of everything in his 22 minutes off the bench for head coach JJ Redick.

One thing Dončić has struggled to get going thus far is his shooting touch. He made just six of his 16 field-goal attempts against the Kings and is 11-of-28 in two preseason contest thus far.

Even when Dončić's shot isn't working overall, there are still incredible moments overall. He tossed up a three from close to the logo to beat the shot clock and it went in.

These are minor issues because Dončić is one of the most efficient scorers in the NBA. He also got to the free-throw line nine times without a miss, so even his poor shooting nights won't keep him from putting up a lot of points.

James' efficiency does remain a concern to keep an eye on. He only attempted three shots, making one, so the sample size against the Kings isn't robust.

However, the 22-year-old is shooting 30.8 percent overall in three preseason contests. It is his best preseason field-goal percentage, up from 29.7 percent during his rookie year and 25.7 last season, but you would hope for more improvement if he is going to turn into a notable contributor in the regular season.

One encouraging sign from James was his playmaking and passing. He dished out six assists in his 22 minutes and is averaging 4.3 per game in the preseason.

The Lakers need to make up for some loss in playmaking with LeBron James no longer on the roster. Dončić and Austin Reaves will get the bulk of the responsibility, but James could play himself into more minutes as a ball-handler when they are off the floor.

Los Angeles will get four days off before returning to action on Oct. 13 against the Golden State Warriors from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
