Natalie Nakase and the Golden State Valkyries have won the WNBA championship after just two years of existence as an expansion franchise. Not a lot of people would have thought something like that would be possible.
Nakase revealed during her post-championship press conference that Golden State owner Joe Lacob wanted to win a title in five years. But as Nakase boasted, she thought they could win even earlier , which she did.
"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Joe (Lacob). Joe interviewed me, he hired me, he believed in me. He set the standard, like, 'Look, whoever takes this job has to win the title in five years.' So I was like, 'Yes, that's gonna happen, but even faster. I'm impatient. I'm obsessive. But, it's because he pushes me," Nakase said on Lacob.

Nakase went on to praise Lacob's support for her and the team, as well as his investment in women's sports .
Lacob, who also owns the Golden State Warriors, caught a lot of flak with his past comments about the Warriors being "light years ahead" of their competition in the NBA. But the results spoke for themselves as the Warriors went on to become a dominant dynasty, winning four titles in eight seasons. Now, he has recreated that success in an even shorter amount of time in the WNBA with the Valkyries.
But Nakase and the team also deserve a ton of credit for their momentous achievement. Her leadership and their commitment to execute her gameplan led to then being well ahead of Lacob's schedule.
