New Knicks Rumors Reveal Mike Brown's Stance on James Wiseman After Center's Recent Contract

The New York Knicks signed five veteran players to Exhibit 9 training camp contracts this past week, opening up a battle for the final roster spot (or two) between wings John Konchar, Bruce Brown and Ochai Agbaji and big men Drew Eubanks and James Wiseman.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein , "It's believed that the Knicks will only fill one of the two current vacancies in terms of the maximum 15 standard contracts they can carry starting Opening Night (Oct. 21) unless they make another roster move first that sheds salary."

Wiseman is a name to watch. Knicks' head coach Mike Brown was an assistant with the Golden State Warriors during Wiseman's first two NBA seasons and "word is that Brown, furthermore, is indeed a Wiseman fan. The newly crowned champs likewise do appear to have a clear need for a third big man behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond."

Wiseman, 25, appeared in just five games over the past two seasons for the Indiana Pacers after suffering a torn left Achilles in the 2024-25 season opener. In total, he's averaged just nine points and 5.5 rebounds in 152 career games since being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.

His history with Brown and the team's need for a third center gives him a chance to earn a roster berth, though he's going to have plenty of competition come training camp.
