After the best season of his career, Jaden McDaniels has been rewarded with a contract extension.
Per ESPN's Shams Charania , McDaniels agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, tying him to the franchise through the 2029-30 season.
McDaniels now has a total of four years and $124 million on his deal with the Timberwolves.
McDaniels is coming off a season in which he averaged 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and a block per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from deep.
He helped the Timberwolves finish the season 49-33 and reach their third consecutive conference semifinals.
The deal means that McDaniels, Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball will all be under contract together through at least the 2028-29 season.
McDaniels was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers 28th overall in 2020 but was eventually traded to the Timberwolves. After a strong start to his career, the Wolves signed him to a five-year, $136 million deal in 2023.
McDaniels, a 2024 NBA All-Defensive Second Team member, has been a major part of the Minnesota rise to prominence over the last few years, and will surely be a key component of a team that can win it all this year.
He started all 73 games that he played last year and gave Minnesota a strong perimeter defense, with Rudy Gobert anchoring the paint, giving the Wolves a top-10 defense in the league last year.
The Timberwolves have been on the brink of contending for years now, but have yet to make the jump to reach the NBA Finals. The team added Ball over the offseason and hopes he can be the missing piece that helps them compete against top teams in the West, like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
