After a fiery first matchup against Luka Dončić in the season opener, Yaxel Lendeborg got a measure of revenge against the Los Angeles Lakers' superstar guard with plenty of help from Stephen Curry in the Golden State Warriors' 112-95 victory on Friday night.
After a fiery first matchup against Luka Dončić in the season opener, Yaxel Lendeborg got a measure of revenge against the Los Angeles Lakers' superstar guard with plenty of help from Stephen Curry in the Golden State Warriors' 112-95 victory on Friday night.
Lendeborg told reporters after the game he "wet the bed" with a poor individual showing on both ends of the floor, but praised his teammates because they "had my back" in the win.
Lendeborg was efficient in that he scored six points on 2-of-3 shooting, but it was easily his lowest usage in a game so far this season. He scored at least 12 points and taken 11 field-goal attempts in each of his first five games.
The rookie also had just one rebound, spent most of the game in foul trouble after getting two calls against him in the first five minutes and eventually fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
Much of the discussion leading up to the game was about the rematch between Lendeborg and Dončić after the Warriors forward was very critical of Dončić coming out of their Oct. 21 game.
Dončić looked like he was going to win the battle again, as he did in the first meeting, after scoring 21 points in the first quarter to help the Lakers build a 38-15 lead.
The Warriors stormed back thanks to their superstar. Curry put up 31 points on 11-of-23 shooting (8-of-13 from three) and dished out six assists. It was his second consecutive game with at least 30 points after being held under 25 in each of his first three starts this season.
Golden State outscored Los Angeles by 40 points over the final three quarters. The Warriors have now won three straight games after their 0-3 start.
All three wins during this streak have come against Western Conference teams that made the playoffs last season, including the Lakers, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Warriors will go for their fourth straight win on Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Clippers. Their last four-game winning streak was from Jan. 13-19 last season, with the final game in that run being the one where Jimmy Butler tore his ACL.
