Joel Embiid is probably excited to start the new NBA season. The Philadelphia 76ers are more stacked than ever after acquiring LeBron James and Jaylen Brown this offseason.
During the Philadelphia 76ers ' Media Day, Embiid spoke about teaming up with James, with whom he won an Olympic gold medal in 2024, and Brown , whom he faced in the first round of last season's NBA playoffs.
"People who know me know that the one thing I care about the most is winning… That's the one thing that sticks out: I want to win, and I will do whatever it takes to win. That was a great time being on that Olympic team, but I think it comes down to the fit. He's one of the best, has a high basketball IQ, so we kind of see the game the same way," Embiid said of James via The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov.
"All those battles against Boston all those years, the one thing I get playing against him is how competitive he is. You won't find too many guys in this league who are able to play two sides of the floor at a high level," he added about Brown. "A good example is Game 7 vs. Boston when we made our comeback. None of the guys could stop me, and he knew he couldn't stop me anyway, but he decided to take the challenge."
Philadelphia 76ers News: LeBron James opens up on the team's potential challenges this upcoming season
In a recent episode of the Mind the Game podcast, LeBron James urged the Philadelphia 76ers to adopt a "bunker mentality" to block the outside noise throughout the 2026-27 campaign.
"You know, you got your group chat with your boys, and like, 'Man, you know, you got 11 shots last night. You should have 15. Why Bron ain't pass the ball more? Why Joe ain't pass the ball more? Tyrese, oh, you on the wing. What, VJ taking too many step-backs? Why he take you out?' It's gonna be all that type of s" James explained. "It's been happening my whole career. The only thing that matters is what we preach every day and how we're gonna hold each other accountable."
"If we can do that, if we can preach that, we can practice that, because it's gonna be tested. If we can practice and preach it every day, then we'll give ourselves the best possible chance, along with health, obviously, which is very important, probably the most important in sports," he concluded.
