Knicks news: Ex-Nuggets NBA champion, Warriors draft bust among signings

The New York Knicks are just over a month away from kicking off their 2026 NBA title defense. The Knicks will be returning most of their championship core from a year ago, although Mitchell Robinson did depart in free agency for the rival Boston Celtics , with Andre Drummond replacing him as the Knicks' backup big man.

Now, the team has brought in a former NBA champion with veteran experience ahead of training camp.

"Free agent Bruce Brown has signed a training camp contract with the New York Knicks ," reported NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

The Knicks also reported on X that they had signed former Golden State Warriors big man James Wiseman to a contract.

Brown won a championship with the Nuggets in 2023, playing a key role off the bench during their steamrolling of the competition in the playoffs. He then went on to sign with the Indiana Pacers and bounced around a bit before returning to the Nuggets, where he played a smaller role last season, but still provided some solid production at times.

The Knicks' depth wasn't exactly a strong point for the team last year, despite their march to the championship, although they did get some unexpected big contributions from players like Landry Shamet off the bench during their playoff run, and adding Brown to the mix would give them another contributor who can impact winning at a high level. ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel had previously mentioned the Knicks signing Brown ahead of camp as a possibility.

Later, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Knicks had signed another NBA vet.

"The Knicks have also just signed Ochai Agbaji ," he reported on X.

It remains to be seen how the Knicks will respond to prosperity after spending decades being the laughingstock of the NBA, but it's certainly a problem that New York fans are happy to have as the new season approaches.
