Victor Wembanyama reveals 'obvious' reason for Opening Night struggles
Wemby had a horrific shooting night in the Spurs' season opener
Victor Wembanyama didn't exactly start the season off hot. The San Antonio Spurs star went 1 of 13 from the field for 12 points in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder , coughing up four turnovers as well.
Thunder rookie Aday Mara bothered Wembanyama with his 7-foot-3 frame, but Wemby didn't credit his struggles to any single defender. Instead, he says improvement must come from within.
"I feel like it's obvious for me," Wembanyama said postgame. "I need to go back to playing the basketball I like. This is not the sport I like right here. I got no reason to be hesitant, no reason to not be myself. For me, it's as simple as that. I'm good when I have fun."
It's possible Wembanyma was a little tight against the Thunder considering the immense expectations the Spurs are facing this season. San Antonio made a surprise NBA Finals run a year ago, falling to the New York Knicks in five games with Wembanyma becoming somewhat of a villain in the process.
Getting back to his fun-loving self could be Wemby's path back to greatness.
