Gym change? No problem. Harrisburg tops Dell Rapids

DELL RAPIDS, S.D. (KELO) — In one of the strangest volleyball games ever, Class AA number one Harrisburg topped Class A number two Dell Rapids, 3-1, after the teams and fans changed gyms in the middle of the second set due to a falling basketball hoop.

A cable holding one of the hoops to the ceiling snapped off as Harrisburg was about to serve.

The hoop came down into position with a loud crash, but thankfully stayed attached to the ceiling and did not cause any injuries.

After a brief delay in which referees and coaches from both teams discussed what to do next, it was decided the game would be moved to the middle school at a greatly reduced fan capacity.

Harrisburg went on to win the stop/start second set to take a 2-0 lead.

Dell Rapids won set three to avoid the sweep but fell in set four to lose to match.

Up next, Harrisburg has eight days off before heading to the Durango Classic in Las Vegas September 18-19 while Dell Rapids hosts Canton on Tuesday.
