Getting bored with only scoring 40 points on a nightly basis, Luka Dončić put up 53 on Friday night to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 124-118 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dončić's 53-point outing marks the highest single-game total for a player this season. It's also his fourth consecutive game with at least 40 points and sixth time overall hitting that mark in the Lakers' first 10 games.

Dončić is on one of the most incredible runs of his already-storied career. His four consecutive 40-point games makes him the first Lakers player to accomplish that feat since Kobe Bryant in January 2012.

The best evidence of how well things are going for Dončić came at the end of the first half when he sank a heave from roughly 60 feet away from the basket.

The six-time All-Star shot 17-of-33 from the field and made five threes against the Blazers. It's his seventh straight game with at least five three-pointers. He has raised his season-long scoring average to 40.1 points per contest.

Dončić received support from his teammates in the victory. Austin Reaves dropped a casual 25 points, giving him three straight games with at least 20.

Walker Kessler is reaping the benefits of playing with Dončić. The Lakers center finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, all of them coming since Oct. 28.

The Blazers put together a strong effort in defeat. The second quarter was a showdown between the two stars on both sides, as Damian Lillard outscored Dončić 12-10 in the frame en route to finishing with 22 points.

Since being held to a season-low nine points against the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 29, Lillard has rebounded with four straight 20-point outings. He's still trying to find consistency with his shot coming off the Achilles injury, though he did make four of his 10 three-point attempts against the Lakers.

Deni Avdija (22 points, 11 assists) and Donovan Clingan (17 points, 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in the loss.

The difference in the game was the third quarter when the Lakers outscored Portland 34-15. They trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, but got the lead up to 12 at the end of the third period.

Dončić and the Lakers are off on Saturday before kicking off a four-game road trip on Sunday with a marquee matchup against the Detroit Pistons.

Portland will play the second night of a back-to-back on Saturday when it hosts the San Antonio Spurs at the Moda Center.
