Coachella Valley will open its season on Friday in Palm Desert.
James, 22, has appeared in 74 career games across three seasons with the Lakers—including five this season—while averaging 2.5 points and one assist in 7.7 minutes per game.
Carr, 21, was the No. 24 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft and has barely seen the court, appearing in just three games while registering no stats.
Neither player was likely to see many minutes at the NBA level this season, barring injuries. The Lakers are stacked at guard, with Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves operating as the starters, Collin Sexton and Quentin Grimes the main reserves behind them and Jaden Hardy available as further depth.
At the 3, the Lakers have primarily utilized players like Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams. With a fairly defined rotation early in the season, finding minutes outside of garbage time for James or Carr hasn't been terribly feasible or necessary.
