A'ja Wilson & Angel Reese Win AP Awards, Check Out Season Box Score Stats Before 2026 WNBA Playoffs

A'ja Wilson is adding more hardware to her already legendary resume.

The Associated Press named the Las Vegas Aces star the WNBA Player of the Year for the third straight season after she led her team to the playoffs as the No. 3 seed. However, she did not repeat as the AP's Defensive Player of the Year, as that honor went to Angel Reese of the Atlanta Dream.

Wilson made history with the award, as it was the fourth time she received the honor. That broke a tie with Breanna Stewart for the most in WNBA history since it was handed out starting in 2016.

"That's got a nice ring to it," Wilson said, per the AP. "That's pretty cool."

She received 15 of the 17 first-place votes to take it home for the third straight year.

"It's big. It's an honor for me to do it three times in a row. It's not easy," the Aces star said. "My counterparts in this league are really good. I don't take it lightly because of how much talent we do have in this league."

Wilson is just 30 years old but is already in discussions as the greatest player in WNBA history. Her list of accomplishments includes four league MVPs, three WNBA titles, three scoring titles, three Defensive Player of the Year awards, a Rookie of the Year, two WNBA Finals MVPs, six block titles, six All-WNBA selections and five All-Defensive selections.

She will surely be adding a fifth MVP and other accolades to that list this season after yet another brilliant individual campaign.

As for Reese, she may not be as accomplished as Wilson, but she impressed in her first season with the Dream and will play in the postseason for the first time in her career after helping lead Atlanta to the No. 4 seed.

The LSU product was an All-Star for the third straight year and also helped the United States take home the gold medal in the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup with suffocating defense. And that defense was on full display throughout the WNBA season, which the AP recognized with this honor Sunday.

Reese and Wilson wouldn't match up in the playoffs unless they both reach the WNBA Finals.

Both teams begin their playoff journey Sunday with Wilson's Aces hosting Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever while Reese's Dream host the Washington Mystics.
