The Dodgers entered 2026 as the two-time defending World Series champions and were attempting to become the first National League team to win three consecutive championships.

The Dodgers' last 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series came in the 1966 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. Los Angeles was swept, losing all four games and scoring only two runs. The Orioles outscored the Dodgers 14-2 and shut them out over the final 33 innings.
Los Angeles is facing a near-impossible challenge. MLB records show that 42 teams have fallen behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven postseason series, with only the 2004 Boston Red Sox successfully completing a comeback. 31 of those teams were swept.
The Dodgers therefore need to accomplish something no team has done since Boston's historic comeback against the New York Yankees more than 20 years ago.

Milwaukee's Game 3 victory came on a pair of seventh-inning home runs that changed the game. After the Dodgers briefly took a 2-1 lead on Will Smith's two-run double in the sixth, Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell hit back-to-back homers in the seventh to put the Brewers ahead 4-2. Milwaukee added two more runs before Trevor Megill closed out the 6-2 win.
Robert Gasser also delivered an outstanding performance, holding Los Angeles scoreless for five innings while allowing only three hits. Jackson Chourio opened the game with a first-pitch home run against Blake Snell, adding another historic moment to Milwaukee's postseason run.
The Brewers have not appeared in the Fall Classic since 1982, when they were still an American League team.
For the Dodgers, the margin for error is gone. They must win four straight games to keep their championship defense alive.
