Payton Pritchard Running Out of Time to Sign Extension With Celtics
The Celtics have one week to work out a new deal with one of their most important players.
The clock is ticking for Payton Pritchard and the Boston Celtics .
On Oct. 1, Pritchard became eligible for a three-year, $69 million extension. Nearly two weeks later, the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.
And with a deadline approaching, the window for Pritchard and the Celtics to sign an extension is closing.
When is Payton Pritchard's extension deadline?
Pritchard has until Oct. 19 to sign an extension with the Celtics, one day before the 2026-27 NBA regular season begins.
Pritchard is under contract through 2027-28. If the two sides don't reach an agreement by Oct. 19, they can revisit contract negotiations in July 2027.
The most Pritchard can sign for this summer is a three-year, $69 million extension. If he waits until next offseason, he could be eligible for a four-year, roughly $100 million extension.
Pritchard has made a strong case for a significant raise. He won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award in 2024-25 before averaging career highs of 17.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 2025-26. He started 50 of 79 games last season.
If Pritchard takes another step forward this season, his value could rise even further.
That gives Pritchard and the Celtics plenty to consider before the Oct. 19 deadline.
Pritchard signed a four-year, $30 million extension with the Celtics in 2023.
His salary for the 2026-27 season is $7.8 million. He'll then make $8.3 million in 2027-28.
