Fever’s Stephanie White compares Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell to historic duo

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell dominated with another historic performance in the Indiana Fever's blowout win over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night. Their efforts ended up getting a legendary comparison from head coach Stephanie White.

Clark finished with a stat line of 34 points, 12 assists, five rebounds, and three steals. On the other hand, Mitchell produced 34 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. They also scored or assisted on 92 of the team's 111 points, the third most in a game in WNBA history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. They set the record against the Chicago Sky with 98 on Aug. 23.

White marveled at the combined talent of her star duo after the game, per ESPN. The Fever coach even went as far to say that they reminded her of Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter, who helped lead the Phoenix Mercury to WNBA titles in 2007 and 2009.

"You think back to those Phoenix days, like they were a dynamic backcourt that could put up big numbers, could both get their own shot, could get other people involved," White said. "But it's been a long time since we've seen the explosiveness of two players like what Kelsey and Caitlin have been doing, and doing it with remarkable consistency."

It is a big statement for Stephanie White to make about Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. Considering the legacies Diana Taurasi and Cappe Poindexter in the WNBA, giving Clark and Mitchell that comparison certainly gives them a remarkable ceiling to have in their careers.

Four players scored in double-digits for Indiana in the win over Connecticut, including Clark and Mitchell. Aliyah Boston came next with 14 points and two rebounds, while Makayla Timpson provided 10 points and eight rebounds.

Indiana improved to a 26-14 record on the season, sitting at first place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Atlanta Dream and the New York Liberty at the moment.

The Fever will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. Being on break due to the FIBA Women's World Cup, they will return when they host the Toronto Tempo as tip-off takes place on Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
