Trae Young has yet to beat the Atlanta Hawks in two games against his former team.
Young and the Washington Wizards fell short of a comeback in a 139-132 NBA Cup group stage loss to the Atlanta Hawks on the road, just two days after losing to the Hawks at home.
Here's a look at the top performers from Friday's in-season tournament action, from which Wizards forward Anthony Davis was sidelined with a right ankle sprain.
The Wizards took an early lead thanks to a 22-8 run to close out Friday's first quarter.
It was the Hawks leading by seven points at the half, however, thanks in part to 16 points in 19 minutes from Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Young was held in the first half to six points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field.
The Wizards were led by a combined 24 points from Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson, but trailed after committing 10 turnovers through two quarters.
The Hawks held onto their advantage in the third quarter as the Wizards struggled with rebounding and CJ McCollum, who is now coming off the bench for Atlanta, heated up down the stretch.
The Wizards, which trailed by 15 points with less than three minutes left on the clock, launched a late comeback push but were ultimately able to erase the deficit before the final buzzer.
The Wizards dropped to 4-5 (1-1 in NBA Cup play) with the loss, while the Hawks improved to 6-4 (1-0 in NBA Cup play).
Young will get his next chance to earn a first victory against his former team when the Hawks and Wizards match up again Jan. 11 in Washington, D.C.
