Domantas Sabonis, Hornets Trade Rumors Addressed by Kings Insider After Report Surfaces

After a rumor surfaced online that the Charlotte Hornets are on the verge of completing a trade for Sacramento Kings veteran big man Domantas Sabonis, one expert quickly dismissed the idea.

Kings insider Matt George of Sactown Sports 1140 shot down the rumor involving Sabonis and the Hornets as "not true or accurate," and he noted that Sacramento and Charlotte haven't engaged in trade discussions "since weeks before the NBA Draft."

Sabonis is coming off a lost season in which he was limited to a career-low 19 games due to knee surgery. He also chose not to participate in Lithuania's FIBA World Cup qualifying window as he eyes a return in the 2026-27 campaign.

The Hornets have already made massive changes over the offseason, trading star point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves and veteran wing Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns. Charlotte hasn't made the playoffs since 2016, but a 44-38 finish last season has fueled optimism for a bright future.

Acquiring Sabonis would surely boost the Hornets' chances of ending their playoff drought, as the 10-year veteran is a double-double machine when healthy. But for now, it sounds like the Kings aren't in a rush to get rid of the three-time All-Star.
