New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson Has Encouraging Injury Update Ahead of Training Camp

The New York Knicks ended their championship drought last season, thanks to Jalen Brunson 's heroics. However, it came at a cost, as Brunson needed surgery this offseason to address his injured left wrist.

With Brunson hurt, several New York Knicks supporters are concerned. However, on Friday, ESPN's Vince Goodwill shared some good news about the reigning Finals MVP's condition.

"One thing you didn't see about Jalen Brunson's wrist was a brace because he's at about 80 to 85% after the wrist surgery that he had in July. He's back to doing basketball activities. He'll have no restrictions when training camp begins in a couple of weeks, as the Knicks begin their bid to repeat," Goodwill said on NBA Today.

Brunson led the New York Knicks on a dominant playoff run, earning Eastern Conference and Finals MVP awards. In the Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, he averaged 32.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.0 steals on 42.1 percent shooting from the field across five games.

Save for Mitchell Robinson, the New York Knicks will bring back most of their championship-winning core this upcoming season. However, they'll likely need some other players to step up to repeat as NBA champions. According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, Mohamed Diawara is poised to have a breakout 2026-27 campaign.

"Regular season fatigue is bound to set in at some point for the defending champion New York Knicks. When it does, the franchise will need players like Mohamed Diawara to help provide a spark. The 6'9″ forward has strong defensive skills that will be called on even more while sharing the second unit with Andre Drummond instead of Mitchell Robinson," Swartz wrote.

"Diawara also connected on 57.6 percent of his corner three-pointers last season, proving to be a reliable kick-out option for Jalen Brunson and others. Diawara's offensive role could slowly expand over time, although most of his impact and breakout will come on the defensive end this season," he ended.
