Skylar Diggins Rips Sky for Lack of 'Resources,' Blames Injuries on Not Getting Practice Facility

It's safe to say Skylar Diggins' first season with the Chicago Sky did not go as planned after she joined the team this past offseason on a two-year deal.

The guard has not played since July 3 because of a right knee injury, and the team announced Tuesday she would miss the rest of the season. But for her part, Diggins placed some of the blame on the organization for its lack of "resources" for the players.

"We need resources," she said, per ESPN . "... I think leading the league in injuries is not coincidental."

Diggins, who was moved out of the starting lineup earlier this season and revealed she had been playing through knee pain at the time, also said, "I hadn't been feeling like myself out there. After we reevaluated, we just decided to scale back and shut it down for the season."

The Sky are expected to have a new practice facility by next year, and Diggins said she is "looking forward to it." However, she was also asked if knowing what was in store in terms of the lack of resources and a dedicated practice facility would have impacted her decision to join Chicago last offseason.

"That's hard to say," Diggins told reporters . "... I understand how those things go as far as delays ... I'll be looking forward to it next year ... We need resources ... and I think leading the league in injuries is not coincidental."

She continued and called the lack of a facility "the biggest frustration within the season, just never feeling like we had a home base."

Diggins is far from the only notable Sky player who dealt with injuries this season.

Rickea Jackson was lost for the year in the early going due to a torn ACL, while DiJonai Carrington has been sidelined multiple times. Carrington has played just 11 games this season.

Diggins seemed to be a major addition for a Sky team in rebuilding mode this past offseason with a resume that includes six All-WNBA selections, seven All-Star nods and a Most Improved Player.

She averaged 14.2 points, 4.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 19 games this season.

As for Chicago, it is 15-25 on the campaign and playing out the string after being eliminated from playoff contention. It is the fourth straight losing season for the franchise that still isn't that far removed from its 2021 title.
