Academy to host Katy youth basketball tournament with Nike, Jordan. Here's how to sign up.

An Academy Sports and Outdoors store in Katy plans to host a three-on-three youth basketball tournament for up to 128 teams from across the region in October.

Academy partnered with Nike and the Jordan Brand to organize the event, which will take place in front of the store at 23155 Katy Freeway on Oct. 17 and 18, according to the local sporting goods company. Six half-courts in the store's front lot will run simultaneous games for boys and girls in middle and high school, and the double-elimination tournament will last through much of Saturday and Sunday.

The event, dubbed the H-Town Classic, will raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston to support youth programs and community development , according to Academy.

"Houston's basketball tradition runs deep, and we're proud to partner with Nike and Jordan Brand to continue the legacy with the H-Town Classic," Academy CEO Steve Lawrence said in a release. "This tournament captures the excitement and community spirit that make basketball such an important part of our city while creating opportunities for athletes of all skill levels to participate, compete and have fun."

The H-Town Classic is set to stretch from 8:30 a.m, to 7 p,m. on Saturday and Sunday. Teams from across the Houston area will descend onto the Katy lot, and each will play at least two games, according to Academy.

Two noteworthy locals are slated to emcee: Kiotti Brown, the voice of the Rockets, and Tausha Sanders, the founder of Her Grails, an organization for female sneaker fans. Other activities, food trucks and giveaways are also set to surround the action on the court.

To register a team, you must complete this form on Academy's website . A team can compete in one of four divisions - middle school boys, middle school girls, high school boys and high school girls.

Each entry costs $100, and registration will be open either through Oct. 9 or until each division reaches capacity, according to Academy. Each division will have a 32-team bracket, totaling 128 teams across the entire tournament, its website states.

Teams can register up to four players, but only three at a time can play, according to the website. Every player will receive a team jersey through the event, according to Academy.

Boys and Girls Club of Houston participants will also get two free team entries, store officials said.
