Stephen Curry Will Make NBA History in Career Earnings After New Warriors Contract

Stephen Curry is on track to become the highest-paid player in NBA history in terms of career earnings after signing a historic extension with the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors announced Friday Curry had signed an extension, which ESPN's Shams Charania reported is a two-year, $116 million deal with a player option for 2028-29.

Curry was heading into the 2026-27 season on a one-year, $62.3 million contract that brought his career earnings to around $532 million, per Spotrac .

Spotrac then projects Curry will be playing under a $55.8 million cap hit in 2027-28 and hold a $58 million cap hit for the following campaign.

The extension will put Curry on track to earn around $645 million by the end of the 2028-29 season. By that time he is projected to become the highest-paid NBA player of all time by Spotrac .

No other player is currently on track to make more than $600 million in career earnings, according to Spotrac.

The extension will for now put Curry on track to beat out Kevin Durant and LeBron James, who Spotrac projects are on track to receive $591 million and $589 million in career salary, respectively.

Curry, Durant and James are the only players on track to finish out the upcoming season with more than $500 million in career earnings. Spotrac projects that by 2031 this trio will be joined in the half-billion club by players including Kawhi Leonard, Devin Booker, Paul George, Donovan Mitchell, Joel Embiid and James Harden.

The Warriors will hope Curry will be able to start out his final season before his new extension by bouncing by from the right knee issues that impacted his 2025-26 campaign when his team opens the regular season Oct. 21 at the Los Angeles Lakers.
