Jacob Misiorowski's gem, Cubs' loss to Braves clinch NL Central for Brewers

With the NL Central title on the line, the Milwaukee Brewers had their Cy Young hopeful ace on the mound Tuesday.

Jacob Misiorowski delivered with another gem, striking out seven across five shutout innings to lead the Brewers to a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates .

Not long after, the Atlanta Braves rallied for a 6-3 win over the Chicago Cubs that eliminated the Cubs from the division race and clinched the NL Central title for the Brewers.

It's Milwaukee's fourth straight division title.

The Brewers will next seek to clinch the No. 1 seed in the National League and home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs in their quest to secure the franchise's first World Series championship.

With Tuesday's victory, the Brewers are 94-57, two games ahead of the 92-59 Los Angeles Dodgers in the race for the best record in the NL with 11 games remaining in the regular season. They also hold a tiebreaker advantage over the Dodgers, having gone 4-3 in their regular-season matchups.

Misiorowski puts another notch in his Cy Young belt

Misiorowski, as he has been throughout the season, was in command of the mound from the start Tuesday. He opened the game by striking out the Pirates' side and tallied five strikeouts through two innings.

With the Brewers holding a 1-0 lead and Misiorowski at 92 pitches, manager Pat Murphy opted not to tax his ace further and took him out of the game after five innings. Milwaukee's bats rewarded the decision with a four-run frame in the top of the sixth to ensure Misiorowski's spot in the win column.

Misiorowski finished his night with 0 runs allowed on 5 hits and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts. He lowered his MLB-best ERA to 1.89 and furthered his case for the NL Cy Young.

The Brewers finished their victory in time to watch the Braves rally from a 3-0 deficit for a 6-3 win over the Cubs that ensured the division title belonged to Milwaukee again.
