Giancarlo Stanton Injury Update, Status for MLB Playoffs Given by Yankees' Boone Ahead of Wild Card

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided an update on Giancarlo Stanton's health heading into the 2026 postseason.

Boone said Wednesday that he was putting Stanton "on the outskirts of the conversation" regarding the playoffs, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ).

The 36-year-old faced pitchers and ran the bases at Double-A Somerset on Wednesday as he continues to recover from calf issues. If Stanton is able to return during the postseason, he's expected to operate in a reduced role.

"You're looking more at a pinch-hit scenario," Boone said about Stanton, via ESPN. "We'll see if that's even a realistic option."

Stanton hasn't appeared in a game since April 24, as he initially suffered a calf strain before experiencing multiple setbacks as he attempted to work his way back into New York's lineup.

The five-time All-Star has suited up in just 24 contests this season, hitting .256 with three home runs and 14 RBI.

Stanton has been limited by injuries in recent years, appearing in just 292 of a possible 486 games from 2023-25.

Still, it isn't hard to imagine him providing a boost to the Yankees' offense if he can return.

Despite Stanton's health woes, he's been a consistent contributor for the Bronx Bombers throughout their postseason runs. He owns a .926 OPS in his playoff career, racking up 18 homers in 48 games.

The Yankees are locked into an American League Wild Card spot after the Tampa Bay Rays clinched the AL East on Tuesday.

Game 1 of New York's AL Wild Card series is on Sept. 29.
