Alex Bregman has made a smooth transition to life in the Windy City, tallying his highest bWAR total since his MVP-caliber campaigns with the Astros as a member of the Cubs this season.

His solid campaign screeched to a stunning halt on Sunday afternoon, however. Bregman was struck in the face by a foul ball from teammate Michael Busch during Chicago 's win over the Reds.

Bregman took to social media to display the scars of his scary collision with the foul ball, revealing the extent of his injuries on his Instagram story.

The Cubs standout was struck by an errant foul ball while taking practice swings from the on-deck circle in the top of the fourth inning during Sunday's game.

Bregman suffered a black eye as a result of the incident. He was taken to a local hospital to undergo testing, according to Chicago manager Craig Counsell.

"He got hit in the left cheekbone, under the eye," Counsell said. "Pretty swollen."

The Cubs haven't yet provided a timetable for Bregman's return. He won't be cleared to play if his vision is at all affected by his ailment.

Bregman has enjoyed a strong debut season in the Windy City, posting an .804 OPS with 26 home runs and 89 RBIs thus far. He figures to play a key role in the Cubs' postseason hopes should he be cleared to return to action.
