Brewers win 100 games for first time in franchise history, topping last season's previous high of 97 victories

The Milwaukee Brewers won their 100th game in a season for the first time in franchise history with Thursday's 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

The triple-digit win total tops the organization's previous mark for most wins in a season, set with last year's 97-65 record. Prior to that franchise high, Milwaukee posted 96 wins during the 2018 and 2011 campaigns. The Brewers have won 90 or more games in five of the past six seasons.

At 100-59, Milwaukee has the best record in Major League Baseball and still has an opportunity to clinch the top seed and home field advantage throughout the postseason.

Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double from Sal Frelick . With the score tied at 1-1 in the eighth, the Brewers went back ahead on run-scoring singles by Jake Bauers , Cooper Pratt and Joey Ortiz . Jackson Chourio put the Brewers up 5-1 with his 25th home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth off Tim Mayza .

Opener Shane Drohan allowed Philadelphia's only one run in the third inning on a double by Kyle Schwarber and a run-scoring single from Bryce Harper . After Drohan's 2 2/3 innings, four other Brewers pitchers threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings, led by Aaron Ashby 's two perfect frames.

Before getting to 100 wins on Thursday, Milwaukee was one of seven MLB teams that had never reached that threshold. Now, the Brewers have separated themselves from the Toronto Blue Jays , San Diego Padres , Texas Rangers , Washington Nationals , Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies .

Despite winning 100 games, the Brewers haven't had a winning streak of more than five games this season, as pointed out by MLB.com's Adam McCalvy . They put together three different five-game streaks this season, but never got to a sixth consecutive win.

That will continue even if Milwaukee sweeps its final three regular-season games versus the St. Louis Cardinals . The Brewers lost to the Phillies on Tuesday, 6-4 .

Also making the Brewers' win total impressive is that they had a losing record during their first full month of the season, going 12-13 in April. They were 16-14 going into May, when the team shifted into another gear with a 19-7 month. Since the All-Star break, Milwaukee has a 41-22 record (a .650 winning percentage).
