Red Sox Broadcaster Blasts Jazz Chisholm Jr. as 'Bush League,' Wonders If SP Should Hit Yankees Star

A Boston Red Sox radio play-by-play announcer crossed the line in his criticism of New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. during Sunday's 16-1 loss.

Per ESPN , after Chisholm stole second and third base while the Yankees were holding a 7-1 lead, WEEI's Will Flemming called the two-time All-Star a "bush league player" and suggested that Red Sox left-handed reliever Jovani Moran should "drill" one of his teammates.

Chisholm drew a leadoff walk against Moran to start the eighth inning and promptly stole second base. Since he wasn't being held at second, he quickly stole third base without a throw, at which point Flemming and WEEI color analyst Will Middlebrooks began their criticism.

"Chisholm's doing it again," Flemming said as Chisholm stole third. "This is what he does."

While Middlebrooks lamented about Chisholm stealing an extra base, Flemming added that Moran should retaliate against Yankees catcher Austin Wells.

"Wouldn't you sort of like to see Moran drill Wells right here?" he said.

Middlebrooks didn't address that suggestion and responded that Chisholm was being "selfish" and "padding your stats," while Flemming added that the 28-year-old "is a bush league player." Wells later launched a two-run home run off Moran, and Chisholm's slow trot to home plate angered Flemming even more.

"Moran should fight Chisholm," Flemming said. "[Moran] is walking toward the third-base line, staring at him there."

The Red Sox (74-63) are now four games behind the Yankees (78-59) in the AL Wild Card race, and they officially lost the season series against New York. Flemming said he feels the situation likely added "a little extra vinegar" to a potential postseason series between the longtime rivals before once again turning his attention to Chisholm.

"I'm gonna say it, he plays the game the wrong way," he said, though he later added that Chisholm is "awesome" and "so talented."
