Pete Crow-Armstrong on his 3-HR day: 'Sammy Sosa told me I was going to hit 3, and I hit 3'

Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to make his case for the MVP. On Saturday, the star slugger tallied the first three-home-run game of his career. To make it even more impressive, Crow-Armstrong hit two home runs in the first two innings of the game.

The outfielder hit leadoff for Chicago and in the bottom of the first inning saw just two pitches. He crushed a 91 mph fastball 435 feet into right-center field .

Crow-Armstrong's solo shot kicked off a three-run inning for the Cubs, and they kept it going in the second. When he came back up to bat, PCA saw four pitches and sent an 80 mph curveball 373 feet to right field for his second big fly of the day.

At the time, the Cubs held a 6-2 lead over the Cincinnati Reds. After showing he was human in the fourth inning with a single and a popout in the fifth, Crow-Armstrong went deep yet again.

The Chicago slugger smashed a three-run, 444-foot home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The blast put the Cubs up 13-5.

With his third home run of the game, Crow-Armstrong became the first Cubs player to have 4 hits, 3 home runs, and 6 RBI in the same game at Wrigley Field since George Mitterwald pulled off the feat in 1974, per ESPN's Jesse Rogers .

Crow-Armstrong grounded out to second in his final at-bat. He finished 4 for 6 with three home runs and six RBI.

After the game, PCA was interviewed about his performance. He put it simply, "Sammy Sosa told me I was going to hit 3, and I hit 3. Put it on the record."

Crow-Armstrong has been tearing the cover off the ball this season. After Saturday's display of power at the plate, the outfielder now has 36 home runs on the season, the third-most in MLB. PCA is now slashing .282/.377/.567 and has 89 RBI, just six shy of his career-high, with more than a month left in the regular season.

Chicago blew out Cincinnati 17-5 on Saturday. The win moves the Cubs to 77-59, sitting in second place in the NL Central, still trailing the Milwaukee Brewers by 7.5 games. Chicago currently holds the No. 1 NL wild-card spot.
