Fernando Tatis Jr. Talks Padres' Dominant MLB Playoffs G1 Win vs. Cubs, 'Beautiful Baseball Night'

Fernando Tatís Jr. reflected on what was essentially a perfect night for the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, as they cruised to an 8-0 win over the Chicago Cubs in Game 1 of their National League Wild Card Series.

Speaking to reporters following the one-sided victory, Tatís said, "We couldn't have scripted it any better than what happened tonight. Today was a beautiful baseball night for every San Diegan."

Playing in front of over 47,000 fans at Petco Park in San Diego, the Padres poured it on from the get-go, as they led 2-0 after one inning and 7-0 through five.

Tatís was a big part of the Padres' offensive success in Game 1, as he launched a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning.

All told, Tatís went 2-for-3, walked once, stole a base and scored three runs to go along with the one homer and one RBI.

Veteran third baseman Manny Machado also homered and drove in a pair, while starting pitcher Michael King authored a masterpiece, allowing one hit and no runs, while walking three and striking out eight over seven innings.

King and the San Diego pitching staff notably shut down Cubs outfielder and NL MVP front-runner Pete Crow-Armstrong, as he went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Padres are now just one win away from advancing to the National League Division Series for the second time in the past three seasons.

They will send Nick Pivetta to the mound for Wednesday night's Game 2 of the NLWCS, while Chicago will counter with Kevin Gausman.
