The Yankees announced that Sunday's regular-season finale against the Orioles has been canceled due to the forecast of sustained inclement weather, and it won't be rescheduled.

Following Sunday's cancellation, the Yankees will finish the season with a 93-68 record, while the Orioles will finish at 79-82. After losing Friday's series opener 10-2, New York won Saturday's matchup 6-3 to end the year on a high note before turning its attention to the playoffs.

The Yankees will meet the rival Boston Red Sox in the wild-card round for the second straight year, marking the seventh postseason meeting between the longtime enemies. New York won last year's playoff series after bouncing back from a Game 1 loss, and the team also won the regular-season series 7-6 this year.

On Sunday, the Yankees announced that American League Cy Young Award favorite Cam Schlittler will start Tuesday's Game 1 against the Red Sox. The 25-year-old went 14-6 this season with a 1.95 ERA and 239 strikeouts. He famously closed out last year's playoff series against Boston with a 12-strikeout performance across eight shutout innings.

The Yankees will hand the ball to lefty Max Fried for Game 2 on Wednesday, and Gerrit Cole will start Thursday's Game 3 if necessary. New York is chasing its first World Series title since 2009, so the team will try to make the most of the extra rest from Sunday's cancellation against Baltimore.
