Yoenis Cespedes Jr. Showcases Swing in Training Video Amid Rumors Interest from 'Several' MLB Teams

Yoenis Céspedes Jr., the 17-year-old son of the former MLB All-Star, could be following in his father's footsteps on a path to professional baseball.

MLB insider Francys Romero posted video of Céspedes working out in the Dominican Republic where he trains at the Chiqui Mejias Academy and showing off his power.

In his Beisbol FR Substack newsletter, Romero noted the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres are among the MLB clubs monitoring Céspedes' progress recently.

Romero previously noted in December 2025 that scouts praised Céspedes' "bat skills, particularly his ability to recognize pitches and hit to all fields."

At just 17 years old, Céspedes is still growing into his frame but his power is starting to show in both batting practice and games. He can play either third base or a corner outfield position, but the bat is his primary selling point.

Céspedes comes from a strong athletic background. His father, Yoenis Céspedes, had a 16-year professional career between his time playing in Cuba and MLB.

The elder Céspedes spent eight seasons in MLB with four different teams. He finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting to Mike Trout in 2012, hit at least 20 homers in each of his first five seasons and finished eighth in NL MVP in 2016 with the New York Mets.

Yoenis Céspedes Jr.'s grandparents were both athletes. Romero noted Céspedes' grandmother, Estela Milanés, was a pitcher for the Cuban national team that appeared in the 2000 Olympics.

Céspedes is currently eligible to sign with any MLB club.
