Padres activate closer Mason Miller from paternity list ahead of must-win Game 4 vs. Brewers
Miller missed Game 3 on Tuesday for the birth of his first child.
The San Diego Padres have their closer back.
One day after the team added reliever Mason Miller to the postseason paternity list, he has been activated and is available to pitch in Game 4 on Wednesday.
Miller missed San Diego's must-win Game 3 on Tuesday, with the Padres down 2-0 in the best-of-five series. San Diego rallied for a 4-3 win . The Padres still trail 2-1 in the series and must win Wednesday to force a Friday night series finale.
The closer was replaced on the roster with Wandy Peralta. Peralta did not appear Tuesday and has now been removed from the roster as Miller returns.
Miller and his wife, Jordan, welcomed their first child, and everything went well, per manager Craig Stammen .
In Game 3, San Diego took a one-run lead in the top of the eighth. While Miller would normally have gotten the call out of the pen to get six big outs, in his absence, Stammen turned to starter Michael King.
The veteran right-hander began his career as a reliever and later became a starter. King allowed just one hit and walked two in his appearance, but he gave up no runs and struck out one batter. Stammen said King would be available for Game 4 if needed.
With their season on the line, the Padres are starting Walker Buehler. The 32-year-old has pitched in 32 games this season and has a 9-6 record with a 4.63 ERA.
Stammen will likely turn to the pen at the first sign of trouble, especially because the manager said the team hopes to have setup man Adrian Morejon available tonight as well.
