Red Sox Name Chad Tracy Full-Time Manager, Craig Breslow's Contract Options Exercised

Two days after clinching a playoff berth to cap off an incredible turnaround, the Boston Red Sox are keeping Chad Tracy as their full-time manager.

The Red Sox announced on Tuesday they have removed the interim tag from Tracy and signed him to a contract through the 2029 season. The club also picked up the two option years on chief baseball officer Craig Breslow's deal that will take him through 2030.

Breslow has been in his role with the Red Sox since October 2023 when he replaced Chaim Bloom as the lead front-office executive. They have made the playoffs in back-to-back years in 2025 and '26 for the first time since 2016-18.

A former MLB third baseman, Tracy had previously managed Boston's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester since 2022. Rather than making an outside hire, the team opted to promote him to the permanent role.

Boston, which sits third in the AL East behind the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees with an 84-72 record, fired Cora and five members of his coaching staff on April 25 following a 10-17 start to the season.

Bench coach Ramón Vázquez, hitting coach Peter Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were also dismissed along with Cora.

Since Tracy took over, the Red Sox's 74-55 record is the fifth-best in MLB. They are 52-26 in their last 78 games since dropping two of three against the Colorado Rockies from June 24-26, a stretch that includes tying the franchise record with a 15-game winning streak from July 3-22.

Given how quickly the Red Sox seemed to respond to having Tracy in the managerial seat, it seemed like a safe bet he would be their pick to take on the job full-time.

Tuesday's announcement makes it official, and the Red Sox will maintain continuity throughout the organization for the forseeable future by having Tracy working alongside Breslow for at least the next three seasons.
