With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Guardians' Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez scored on a throwing error by Sean Newcomb, who threw the ball past first base. Nathaniel Lowe notched an RBI, bringing home Kwan.

Cleveland's ace Williams got off to a hot start, striking out six through three innings and holding the White Sox scoreless throughout.

Things imploded for Williams in the sixth inning as he exited after giving up three runs and leaving a runner at second, with Chicago finding its offensive rhythm. Despite the rough inning, Williams finished with 11 strikeouts, tying the Guardians' second-most strikeouts in a postseason game.

Chicago's Munetaka Murakami brought home Kyle Teel in the top of the fourth for one run before a three-run sixth inning.

Braden Montgomery drove in two runs with a double, and Chase Meidroth brought Montgomery home to give the White Sox a 4-2 advantage after six innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jo Adell tripled to bring home Chase DeLauter and cut the deficit to one run heading into the final inning.

Closer Cade Smith then shut down the White Sox with a quick three outs, sending Cleveland to the bottom of the ninth needing at least one run to keep Game 2 alive.

White Sox closer Grant Taylor never broke a sweat, retiring the Guardians in order in the ninth to seal Game 2 with a chance to clinch it at home.

The two teams will make the switch to Chicago for Game 3 of the ALDS after Cleveland hosted the first two games. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
