What to Know About Mitch Voit and Latest Scouting Report on Mets' Top-5 Prospect

Despite things being tough at the MLB level for the New York Mets in 2026, their player development had a good year with many notable graduations and the rise of last year's first-round pick Mitch Voit.

The Mets announced their player development award winners for the season this week, with Voit being named Player of the Year.

Interim manager Andy Green spoke very highly of Voit, describing him as someone who "can do a lot of impressive things" on a baseball diamond and praised his ability to handle in-game adversity by citing his demeanor when he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

MLB.com has Voit ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the Mets' system. The 21-year-old hit .273/.371/.431 with 13 homers and 45 stolen bases in 105 games across two levels this season.

The site's scouting report praised Voit's "wicked bat speed" in his debut season last year. He has average or better tools across the board with his best attributes being his plus speed and arm strength.

Voit's arm strength stems from him being a converted two-way player in college at Michigan. He pitched for two seasons with the Wolverines in 2023 and 2024, but internal brace surgery on his throwing elbow in July 2024 ended his time on the mound.

The Mets selected Voit with the No. 38 pick in the 2025 MLB draft. He became the first Michigan player selected in the first round since Dave Parrish went to the New York Yankees with the 28th pick in 2000.

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Voit's 2026 is how he raised his performance after being promoted from High-A to Double-A on July 27. He slashed .347/.430/.517 in 118 at-bats with Binghamton.

Even though it was only a sample size of 29 games at Double-A, Voit's walk rate remained essentially the same (10.3 percent) as it was in High-A (10.7 percent). His strikeout rate dropped by more than two percent from 20.2 to 17.6.

Voit primarily played shortstop this season, but also spent time at second base. MLB.com noted talent evaluators believe he has the athleticism to handle shortstop as he continues to move up the ladder.

The Mets started this season with a top-10 farm system led by Nolan McLean, Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing. All three players have graduated from prospect status, leaving them without a homegrown top-100 prospect.

Jefferson Rojas, who is currently the Mets' No. 1 prospect and 76th overall on MLB.com 's updated ranking, was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the Clay Holmes trade.

Voit could be a top-100 candidate going into next season coming off a breakout year.
