Red Sox Closer Aroldis Chapman Discusses 'Special' Moment Reaching 400 Career Saves

Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman hit the 400-save mark on Sunday, preserving a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles and a four-game sweep in the process.

He's just the ninth pitcher in MLB history to reach that milestone.

"It's very special," Chapman told reporters about the accomplishment. "A few years back, I lost my role as a closer. When I came here they gave me an opportunity to compete for the job. I was able to win it. [Getting 400 saves] was one of the things I wanted to do in my career. There was a moment when I didn't think I would be able to do it."

Chapman, 38, is now 3-4 on the season with 33 saves, a 2.03 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and 65 strikeouts in just 48.2 innings. He remains one of the best relievers in the sport, and now he's entered the illustrious 400-save club.
