Kinley Rasmus Ties Mo'ne Davis' LLWS Record for Most Strikeouts By a Girl in 1 Game

Kinley Rasmus had a historic day on the mound on Wednesday.

The Phenix City Alabama Little League pitcher recorded eight strikeouts through six innings against Washington, tying Mo'ne Davis for the most strikeouts by a girl pitcher in a Little League World Series game.

Davis was just the fourth American girl to play in the Little League World Series and was the first girl to pitch a winning game in 2014, setting the stage for players like Rasmus to star on youth sports' biggest stage.

But those familiar with Rasmus likely aren't surprised to see her dominate the way she did on Wednesday.

She is the niece of former MLB center fielder Colby Rasmus, who led Phenix City to Williamsport in 1999, the team's last appearance.

He's now an assistant coach for the team, and his brother, Case, is the head coach of the team. Case played four seasons in minor league baseball, and his son is on the team with Kinley.

So the Rasmus family is no stranger to the Little League World Series, and Kinley is looking to lead Phenix City to its first-ever championship.

"I just always hear my dad talking about [Williamsport] and how much fun he had, and I just want to do the same thing," Kinley said, per ESPN's J.J. Post .

Before her outstanding showing on Wednesday, Kinley pitched a complete-game shutout in the regional final and went 6-for-8 with two RBIs and four walks during the tournament.
