Two of New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman's special assistants reportedly won't be back with the organization in 2027.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post , the Yankees are not renewing the contracts of Omar Minaya and Brian Sabean.

That news comes on the heels of the Yankees announcing last week that Cashman had agreed to a new deal to remain with the team next season.

Way-Too-Early 2027 MLB Playoff Predictions 🔮

Cashman, 59, is the longest-tenured GM in Yankees history, having held the title since 1998.

He joined the Yankees organization in 1986, going on to win the 1996 World Series as assistant GM, before winning four more World Series as general manager.

However, the Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009, and they have only made it to the World Series once since then, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024.

Although the Yankees have reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons and nine of the past 10 seasons, success during the postseason has largely eluded them.

Since making it to the 2024 World Series, the Yanks have suffered back-to-back, one-sided losses in the American League Division Series.

Despite that, ownership made the decision to retain both Cashman and manager Aaron Boone for the 2027 campaign.

In Minaya and Sabean, the Yankees are parting ways with two executives who have MLB GM experience.

The 67-year-old Minaya was general manager of the New York Mets and Montreal Expos in the past, while the 70-year-old Sabean was GM of the San Francisco Giants, leading them to three World Series titles from 2010 to 2014.

While the Yankees are losing a ton of experience from their front office, it figures to be business as usual with Cashman trudging toward 30 years as the franchise's GM.

Cashman's biggest orders of business this offseason figure to focus on adding some bats and bullpen arms via free agency or trade, while also figuring out what to do with internal free agents such as closer David Bednar, second baseman Jazz Chisholm and outfielder Trent Grisham.
