White Sox SS Colson Montgomery on Wrong Side of MLB History After Breaking Strikeout Record

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery achieved MLB history, but not in a good way.

During Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals, Montgomery struck out in his second at-bat, tying Mark Reynolds' single-season MLB record of 223 strikeouts.

Now, Montgomery has broken the record after striking out looking against Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano in the bottom of the fifth inning on Friday, giving him 224 K's on the season.

Montgomery entered Thursday's game batting .200, but he's been a solid contributor with 31 home runs and 87 RBI. However, an abysmal recent run put him in some dubious company:

Montgomery now stands atop that strikeout list. It's a brutal way for him to end the regular season, but the White Sox have clinched a playoff berth, and Montgomery has a chance to wash away this tough ending with a strong postseason performance.
