The Seattle Mariners reportedly have a long list of potential candidates for their third manager in the last three years.

According to Jon Heyman and Mark Feinsand of MLB Network, the Mariners "are casting a wide net for their managerial job," and David Ross, Joe Espada, Rocco Baldelli and Brandon Hyde are among the "possible candidates who'd fit [the] preference for experience."

Following a 76-86 finish to the 2026 season, the Mariners parted ways with manager Dan Wilson, who had taken over for Scott Servais toward the end of the 2024 season and led the team to the ALCS in 2025.

Early Offseason Predictions on Free Agency and Trades 🔮

"Collectively, we failed to meet our own expectations this season," Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in a statement at the end of the year. "Dan and I both care deeply about this organization, these players, and the future of the Mariners. After much discussion it was concluded that a new direction is best for 2027 and beyond."

The candidates that Heyman and Feinsand listed all have recent managerial experience, and it was noted that the Mariners received permission to speak to Espada, who currently manages the Houston Astros. Hyde and Baldelli parted ways with the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins, respectively, in 2025. Both of them won the AL Manager of the Year Award during their tenures. Ross managed the Chicago Cubs from 2020 to 2023.

The Mariners have promising pieces such as outfielder Randy Arozarena and catcher Cal Raleigh, but they will need the right leader if they hope to return to title contention next season and beyond.
