Blink-182 star gets emotional singing his own song with Padres fans
Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge led San Diego Padres fans in an emotional stadium sing-along of 'All the Small Things' in Game 3 against the Brewers.
The San Diego Padres have their rally caps on after falling behind 2-0 in their best-of-five MLB playoff series against the Milwaukee Brewers . Thanks to a 4-3 Game 3 win, the Padres now head into Game 4 on Wednesday night with a chance to send the series back to Milwaukee for a win-or-go-home Game 5. But before we dive into tonight's game, there was one unique moment from Game 3 worth watching (at least once) that made for must-see TV thanks to Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge.
Blink-182's hit song "All the Small Things" has become an unofficial anthem and late-game tradition for the Padres at Petco Park. But what makes it even more awesome is that DeLonge is a lifelong Padres fan, and during Game 3 of the NLDS matchup with the Brewers, DeLonge was front and center for the sing-along.
Not surprisingly, being in attendance as 40,000-plus fans sing a song you helped create and have performed countless times must have been surreal, and DeLonge was emotional in the moment.
If that's not the perfect sports-and-entertainment crossover moment, I'm not sure what could top it. A team you've loved and a fanbase you've been a part of for your entire life, singing one of your own band's greatest hits in unison during the biggest game of the series? All while the Padres held a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning? This is the kind of sports moment you typically can only find in movies.
DeLonge has spoken about his love for the Padres in various interviews over the years, including one in 2016 with MLB.com . So there's no question DeLonge's love for the franchise left him going through the same whirlwind of emotions that all Padres fans had on Tuesday night.
Also, kudos to DeLonge for not letting the emotional moment overwhelm him beyond a sing-along that was obviously tugging on his heartstrings. I can say with certainty that if he and I changed spots, the water works would have been flowing.
