Updated 2026 MLB Playoffs Bracket Picture and Standings After Rays Clinch Berth

The Tampa Bay Rays are returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2023.

Tampa Bay clinched its postseason spot Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros.

Here is a look at the standings after the Rays secured their spot in the playoff field.

The American League East figured to be among the most competitive divisions in the league entering the 2026 campaign.

After all, the Toronto Blue Jays were coming off a World Series appearance, the Baltimore Orioles made notable additions, and the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are consistently among the top contenders.

Tampa Bay was left undaunted by the challenge.

It was clear from the early going the Rays were going to be a factor when they jumped out to a 34-15 record with immediate success against all their divisional foes. That gave them some breathing room for the ups and downs of a long season, and a nine-game winning streak in August further cemented their spot atop the division.

The Rays have reached this point with a number of contributors, but a handful stand out.

Junior Caminero, Yandy Díaz, Drew Rasmussen and Bryan Baker all made the American League All-Star roster , while players such as Taylor Walls and Chandler Simpson have also provided boosts for their offense.

Caminero is among the best sluggers in the game and has anchored Tampa Bay's lineup throughout the season with a .279/.365/.534 slash line, 40 home runs and 95 RBI .

On the pitching side, Rasmussen has spearheaded the efforts for the starting rotation, while Baker has been a shutdown closer in the bullpen. Kevin Kelly and Tyler Wells also help shorten games near the back end of the bullpen, which could be critical come playoff time.

The question now is how far the Rays will advance in the postseason.

They lost in either the AL Wild-Card or Division Series four times in their stretch of five straight playoff appearances from 2019 through 2023, although they reached the World Series in 2020.

As the team with the best record in the American League, anything less than a deep playoff run this time around would be seen as a disappointment.

Tampa Bay has been excellent all season, but now the expectations will dial up with October looming.
