William Contreras' late go-ahead home run sealed the Milwaukee Brewers' 3-2 Game 1 National League Divisional Series win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday.

However, Contreras' home run only proved to be the difference-maker after a bizarre play in the ninth inning.

Padres first baseman Ty France stepped up to the plate in the final inning and hit a ball that looked to potentially be a go-ahead home run for San Diego. Instead, the ball hit the roof and was caught by Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio, resulting in an out.

The ball was hit at 105 mph and at a 49 degree launch angle, leaving many to believe it could have traveled enough distance for a home run had it not hit the roof at American Family Field.

The Brewers, the National League's No. 1 seed, entered the NLDS as 1.5-point favorites over the Padres, according to FanDuel Sportsbook , with home-field advantage.

Despite not taking their first lead of the game until the bottom of the seventh on Contreras' 406-foot bomb, the Brewers pulled off the victory behind a combination of big hits out of the park and a great start from their ace, Jacob Misiorowski.

At the top of the second, Luis Campusano singled to bring in Xander Bogaerts and send Ethan Salas to third, setting up Jake Cronenworth to bring Salas home on a fielder's choice and give the Padres a 2-0 lead.

Milwaukee's Jackson Chourio responded in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer, bringing in Garrett Mitchell to even the score at 2-2.

With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, the Brewers made a pitching change, bringing in DL Hall to face Merrill in hopes of preventing him from doing more damage after his third-inning homer. Merrill flied out to left field to end the inning, allowing Milwaukee to escape the jam.

The Brewers turned defense into offense as William Contreras, with a full count and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, launched a solo home run off Adrian Morejon's 100 mph pitch to give Milwaukee its first lead of the game, 3-2.

With one more shot to tie the game or take the lead in the top of the ninth, Dustin Harris reached first base to begin the inning, but the rest of the lineup could not build on the hot start as the Padres head into Game 2 trailing 1-0 in the series.

The Brewers and Padres series will remain in Milwaukee on Sunday for Game 2, with Milwaukee's Logan Henderson and San Diego's Michael King slated to start. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
