Cam Schlittler Says Yankees 'Didn't Seem Like We Really Showed Up' After ALDS Game 2 Loss to Rays

New York Yankees ace Cam Schlittler felt like something was missing during Monday's 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Schlittler shouldered some of the blame in explaining it "didn't seem like we really showed up" to fall behind 0-2 in the series.
The issues started right out of the gate with the Yankees committing three errors in the bottom of the first, though Schlittler limited the damage to just one run.
The Yankees finished with four errors, tied for their second-most in 448 playoff games for the franchise. The fourth error on a bad throw by shortstop George Lombard Jr. was especially devastating.
There were two outs in the bottom of the fifth at the time, so the Yankees could have escaped only down 3-1. Richie Palacios singled immediately afterward to score two more runs to make it a four run deficit for New York.
Schlittler was charged with four runs, but only two earned in 4.1 innings. He also wasn't his usual dominant self with just two strikeouts, his fewest in a game since Game 4 of the 2025 ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays.
In addition to the poor defense, New York's bats have been silent through the first 18 innings of the series. Ben Rice was the lone bright spot on Tuesday with two solo homers.
The rest of the Yankees' lineup finished 2-for-28 and they had one at-bat with a runner in scoring position. This came after they got one-hit in Game 1 on Saturday.
After making easy work of the Boston Red Sox in the wild-card round, the Yankees are now on the brink of being swept in a playoff series for the first time since the 2022 ALCS.
New York will get the next two games at home as it looks to keep its season alive. Game 3 between the Rays and Yankees in the Bronx will be played on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
